Maria Badstue combines her inspiring podium presence with a refined, effective and gracious style of conducting. She proved her international level as a prizewinner of The 5th Lovro von Matatic Competition 2011 with the Croatian Radio & Television Orchestra, and in 2013 she made her official Danish debut at Tivoli Festival with the Copenhagen Phil. She has conducted orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony, Malmö Symphony, Helsingborg Symphony, Kristiansand Symphony, and she has assisted Esa-Pekka Salonen with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In Denmark she has worked with most of the professional orchestras including Odense Symphony, South Denmark Philharmonic and Aalborg Symphony. In the operatic field she has worked at the Royal Opera House of Mumbai, Danish National Opera and Royal Danish Opera, and she assisted Michael Boder at the Wiener Staatsoper. In the field of contemporary opera she premiered `ANGELO La Opera´ by Lars Klit and conducted `A Dolls House ´by John Frandsen. This season amongst others include a return to Romanian Radio Orchestra, debut with the Royal Navy Band in Norway.
From 2007-2013 Maria was mentored by professor Jorma Paula and she followed him closely in Finland and abroad. She earned her masters degree in 2014 studying with Jukka Pekka Saraste and Ole Kristian Ruud at the Norwegian State Academy, and she received important impulses from masterclasses with Bernhard Haitink and Lucerne Festival Strings.
In 2012 Maria Badstue founded `Nordic Masterclass for Conductors´in collaboration with Jorma Panula and South Denmark Philharmonic. Now in it´s 5th season Nordic Masterclass is firmly established as one of the most attractive conducting masterclasses in Europe. From 2017 Maria Badstue is delighted to take up the position as assistant teacher to Jorma Panula.
